CTO LIVE AID AGAINST COVID-19
WORLD TOUR - JULY 9th, 2020
CHARITY EVENT
WHY THIS INITIATIVE?
The COVID outbreak is dramatically hitting lives and professions. We, as healthcare professionals, have been involved in the management of this outbreak so that many among us had to put efforts outside their routine practice. We have been witness to a profound change in our hospitals, and conscious of our profession as physician rather than interventional cardiologist.
In the last few weeks, COVID-19 outbreak seems to have reached its peak in many countries, doctors and communities are more aware of the clinical situation, and management of the disease in hospitals has improved. A part of the interventional cardiology community is planning to restart, and getting back to our activities means taking care of our cardiac patients and also carrying on all the educational programs we are committed to. Training and education must never stop, since they are key to enhance success in treating patients.
The need of a new way to provide high level education in the social distancing era, and the wish to spread a supportive message of friendship and cohesion, turned our original idea into a concrete charity digital event.
This solidarity action is about to involve 13 CTO expert operators in a unique “CTO World Tour”: 13 CTO live cases from 12 international centers will be performed in succession over a 14-hour lapse. Every operator will work in his centre following his standard clinical practice, while broadcasting live through incathlab platform. We will virtually travel from east to west according to jet-lags, going through East Asia, Middle East, Europe, North and South America. Cases will be commented live with the goal of providing technical and clinical key messages to a wide international web audience. We do believe that such a project should be a charity one, to help all Emergencies, ICUs disadvantaged people facing COVID-19 through the International Committee of the Red Cross.
For this reason, we are organizing a worldwide fundraising campaign and we need all medical Industry actors to support this solidarity initiative which is based on training and friendship. It would be a new interactive and digital event in which operators, moderators, audience and supporting companies will not be only sharing professional experiences with educational purposes, but also raising funds on an international scale, to keep fighting the COVID-19.
